LICENSE INFORMATION
Registered users of Chastity are granted the rights to use the program as is at one system. You may not modify or re-sell any portion of Chastity. You are allowed and even encouraged to distribute Chastity to your friends and local bulletin boards. To do so you must distribute the entire un-registered program.
LIMITATIONS
There are few limitations that Chastity imposes on you. You are limited to 36 menu icons per log in but to get around this limitation you can login using different name combinations. Your To-do list can not exceed 64k in size. Pocket Change Software or the author assumes no liability for damages, etc. due to use of this software.
LOGGING IN
In order to Log-in to the system, you must first be assigned a password by the "Manager" of the system. Assuming your name is David, you would type David and press {Enter}. Next if your access to the system requires a password you should type it in and press {Enter}. Note, you will not see the characters that you are typing.
ADDING MENU ITEMS
The first thing that you should do is click on the "Show Empty Menu Items" menu selection under "Edit". This will draw a box around all of the locations that can hold a personal menu item.
There are several methods of adding menu items. The easiest is to click the right mouse button over the empty location desired. You can also drag the empty box to the "Pencil" icon and drop it. Or you may click on the location you desire and then select Edit, Edit Menu Item from the top menu.
Either method you choose, you will see a dialog box that asks for (1) Title, (2) Program Name, (3) Default Directory and (4) Picture to display as an Icon. If you are not sure of the program name or the picture you can click on the ... beside the input boxes and a browse box will appear. From it choose the file you want and click OK. Once you have entered all the data, you can save your entry by clicking OK.
EDITING MENU ITEMS
You can edit any menu item by following the instructions above. Your current settings are not deleted unless you select CLEAR or you delete the menu item. For information about this, see the next section.
DELETING MENU ITEMS
To delete a menu option you can simply Drag the box to the "Trash Can". You can also select CLEAR from the Add Menu Dialog Box.
RUNNING MENU ITEMS
Again, you have several methods to choose from. (1) Double-Click the menu item. (2) Drag the item to the "Running Man" icon. (3) Select the menu item from the LAUNCH menu at the top of the screen. (4) You can press the "Hot Key" for the menu item. To find out what the hot keys are, select LAUNCH and make a note of the keys listed to the right of each item.
APPLICATIONS NOT ON YOUR MENU
From the LAUNCH menu select "Launch and application" or press Ctrl L. This will show a dialog box that allows you to search and run any executable file.
QUICK ACCESS TO THE FILE MANAGER
To launch the File Manager, you can press Ctrl F or select "File manager" from the LAUNCH menu.
SAVING YOUR CHANGES
To assure that all changes made to your menu structure will re-appear the next time you access the system, you should click on FILE "Save". Chastity will acknowledge that it was saved under your login ID.
If you want to save your menu for someone else to use, select FILE, "Save As" from the top menu. Now type in the name to save it as. Note, you only the first 8 characters will be used. Also Note, DO NOT INCLUDE PERIODS IN YOUR NAME!!!
HELP ON MENU OBJECTS
To find out what any menu object will do, simply click and hold any mouse button on the object. The status bar will now tell you what this object will do.
To get more help on an object, drag it to the "Question Mark" icon. This will display a screen detailing all the actions that can be performed on this object.
SETTING MENU DEFAULTS
Click on EDIT "Defaults" to access the dialog screen for changing your system defaults. From this screen you can specify such things as the default directory, whether to Chime each hour, Warn about deletions or to show the To-Do list at startup. Click on OK to save your changes.
THE TO-DO LIST
Chastity comes with a very simple but useful To-Do list manager. If you do not want to show the To-Do list then set the default setting to off.
ADDING ITEMS
To add items to the To-Do list you can either click on the + above the list, press F11 or select Add from the To-Do menu.
MARKING ITEMS "DONE"
There are several ways to mark items as done. First you can click on the item and then click on the check mark above the To-Do list. You can also drag the item to the trashcan. This method can be used to mark items as done and then automatically delete them. (See the Default Settings Screen.) You can also mark items as done from the To-Do Menu. Probably the simplest method is to press F12.
DELETING ITEMS
There are several ways to delete items. First you can click on the item and then click on the check mark above the To-Do list or press F12. If the default setting is set to "Delete when marked Done", this will delete the item. You can also drag the item to the trashcan. This method can be used to mark items as done and then automatically delete them. (See the Default Settings Screen.) You can also mark items as done from the To-Do Menu.
EDITING AN ITEM
To edit a to-do list item you can either Double-Click on the item, drag the item to the "Pencil" icon or select Edit from the To-Do menu.
MINIMIZING THE TO-DO LIST
To minimize the To-Do list simply click on the down arrow above the list.
VIEWING "DONE" ITEMS
From the To-Do menu select "View Done Items". This will show you a list of the items completed along with the date that each was completed.
PRINTING THE TO-DO LIST
Select Print To-Do list from the To-Do menu. This will only print items that are in the current To-Do list. In other words, it will not print done items. To print these simply open the ????????.tdo file that corresponds with your login with Notepad or Write. Chastity stores the "Done" data in a text file and you should have no trouble printing it.
THE DOS WITHOUT DOS COMMAND LINE
This area appears just to the left of the "Question Mark" icon. It allows you to run DOS and Windows programs. To run a DOS command simply type the command and press Enter. For example, say you want to see a list of all menu files in the current directory. Since menu files end with .mnu you could type: DIR *.mnu | more. (This is just what you would have typed at the DOS prompt) The directory listing will scroll by and then pause before returning to Chastity. You are not limited to just commands. You can run any program that you can run from the DOS prompt.
CURRENT DIRECTORY DISPLAY
DOS without DOS Command Line displays the current Windows directory. For those of you who were very accustomed to always knowing what directory you were in while using DOS, this little bit of information in invaluable. You can change the current directory just as you would from a DOS prompt. (Type CD \Windows Enter to change to the Windows directory.)
RUNNING WINDOWS PROGRAMS
To run Windows programs from the DOS without DOS command line, simply preceed the program name with a "/". For example, to run Write you would type /Write and press Enter. You can also type /Write Test and press Enter to load Write with a particular file.
GETTING A DOS SHELL
To get a DOS shell simply double-click on the box above the DOS without DOS command line. This area contains the current directory. To get back to Chastity, type Exit and press Enter.
SHORTCUTS FOR THE COMMAND LINE
One of the neatest shortcuts is the ability to quickly exit Windows by typing /Quit and pressing Enter. You can also load the Control panel by typing /Control.
